Thursday, December 11, 2014 Unknown 1 Comments

This post is for those having trouble picking out the perfect gifts for friends, but still want to save money (ME!).
These items can be bought and gifted all together or separately!
I have looked through this book and was amazed. It is perfect for that artsy friend who is constantly doodling. It can be thrown in a purse or bag and they can use it when they are bored or waiting for anything!
This can be decorated by you or you can give your friend the sharpies and have them personalize it themselves!
I am a sucker for a tiny sketchbook. Perfect for throwing in purses and bags and doodling.

I can't even explain how much I love these lip glosses! I use the shade Eclair every single day and its something I never leave the house without.
You cant go wrong with Burt's Bees. That is all.
My absolute favorite top coat, pair this with a wintery nail polish and done!

I just bought these to stay cozy while wearing my ankle booties! They have little frills popping out of the top and look adorable with everything.
I can't get over the smell of this candle, its basically Christmas! I burn it every night to wind down.
This is adorably perfect to keep your friends hands all warm and stuff. Plus, look at it!

L'Oréal Voluminous Butterfly Waterproof Mascara First Impression

Tuesday, December 02, 2014 Unknown 0 Comments

I was on the hunt for a new mascara but I'm really picky. I was getting really annoyed with Maybelline The Rocket because it was clumping my lashes together, giving me less of natural wispy lashes. As you can see in the before picture, my eyelashes are not naturally curled. That being said, I like a mascara that can keep them curled. I was recommended the L'Oréal Voluminous Butterfly by my amazing friend and I chose waterproof because it usually keeps my lashes curled the best.
I'm really impressed by this mascara! I could go over multiple times before it showed any signs of clumping. The design of the brush made it easier for me to coat the longer lashes on the outer corner of my eye without getting mascara all over. I've had it on for around an hour and my lashes are still curled!

Just a little from the future Callie update: After using this mascara for a few months I noticed it does flake and cling to my under eye! But besides that, I'm still in love with it.

Fall/Winter Trends for Cheap 2014

Monday, November 24, 2014 Unknown 2 Comments

Being that this is my favorite season for fashion, I felt I needed to make a post about it. I have been studying the trends this fall/winter and I love every single one of them. I honestly don't think I've found one I haven't liked. So after hours of deliberation, I decided on 'fall/winter trends for cheap' because I am a college student and I do not have money to burn.

What I have been listening to lately

If I Stay Soundtrack
I recommend this book if you want to be deeply thinking about your life for a few days after. The movie adaptation was great and I was really impressed. This soundtrack is very random but fits together well. It has the same feel as the book and movie with the switches back and forth from events and emotions.
Blaenavon
I found this band from Mahogany Sessions on youtube. The original video I saw of them was a live version of the song Prague and I was instantly in love. Although they do not have much music I am very happy with all the tracks they have put out.
Bleachers
Bleachers front man is the lead guitarist Jack Antonoff from the band Fun. This band is his 'side project' and has very different music from Fun. I first heard him on Palladia which is a music channel my family watches a lot together. He did a live set in Brooklyn that was an hour long and broadcasted on the channel so my brother and I decided to watch it. We were really impressed by the music and its nostalgic sound, it was almost 80's like. Not to mention that Jack is completely adorable and it's insane to not love him and his stage presence.
Hozier
The voice of an angel. Just watch his live sessions and you will see. I first found him from a friend who sent me the music video his most popular song Take Me to Church and I got goosebumps while watching it.
The Intermission Project
I first heard them once again on the Mahogany Sessions youtube channel. Although they don't have but three songs out, they are all amazing. Here is a playlist of them live, you will not be disappointed.

L'Oréal True Match Lumi foundation review

Friday, August 29, 2014 Unknown 0 Comments

This whole summer I have been struggling to find a foundation to love. I have just been wearing concealer which is great because of the heat but I really wanted something for going out or when I feel like some full face coverage.
This foundation is Lauren Curtis's new found holy grail so I decided I could trust her and give it a shot. Boy was she right. This may be one of the best drug store foundation, or any foundation, I have used. It gives such a flawless air brush finish when I use my damp makeup sponge. I have combination skin but still problems with flakey dry spots and after exfoliating this foundation does not catch any of them still lingering. Not to mention it has a pump! God bless.
I have noticed that the lasting power is fantastic, my t-zone does get oily after a few hours but thats the usual. The coverage on my nose is one of my favorite things about this foundation. I usually have problems with foundations breaking up and looking caky when powdering my nose but this does neither. It really sinks into your skin and blends to a flawless dewy finish, and after powder it still looks amazing. I found that I have been looking in the mirror and feeling like my skin is glowing. The Lumi in the name really makes its presence. I was worried since I have a few spots that it may make them stand out, but the coverage is great and I don't even need concealer to cover the huge one that has appeared in between my eyebrows.
Lastly, I love the range of shades for this foundation. There is cool, neutral, and warm tone options. I got the W3 shade which I feel might be a tiny bit too dark but by blending it down my neck you can't even tell. It also makes me look tan and glowing, not orange at all, which is something I worry about when accidentally picking a foundation shade darker.
I recommend everyone giving this foundation a shot!

Darkroom Photography: Final Art Show

Saturday, July 19, 2014 Unknown 0 Comments

For three Summers since my sophomore year of high school I have taken five art classes at Cranbrook Summer Art Institute. Because I am no longer in High School, my last art show with the program was last week Friday. It was my third time taking their darkroom photography class and I am pretty proud of what I had shown. It was really bittersweet because this camp has taught me so much and I have met so many amazing friends through it from places all around the world.
None the less, Thank you CSAI for teaching me so much.

Photos I took of my friend Sarah around campus

The poem was inspired by Martha Rosler's work with combining her photography and writing

I used a sharpie to draw these models faces on transparencies and placed them over the paper when printing

I finally bought the Lorac Pro Palette!

Tuesday, July 08, 2014 Unknown 0 Comments

(Sorry for the poopy swatches!)

I have waited quite a while to get my hands on the Lorac Pro Palette but the day has finally arrived and I couldn't be happier. I pretty late on this but the palette has 8 matte shadows (top row) and 8 shimmer shadows (bottom row) consisting of 16 full total. They are extremely creamy and pigmented shadows that leave little to no fall out. The one thing I like most is the variety of color in this palette. There are so many options which makes it the perfect go to palette for bringing on trips. I know that this palette will be very well loved!

Light Pink Bubble Clutch

Thursday, June 19, 2014 Unknown 0 Comments

So my Mom was cleaning out the bathroom today and she told me she was getting rid of a few bags. She claimed there was one she has had since college that is my favorite color and said I would probably like it. She was right.
It was pretty dirty from years of loving. My mom said she used it as a clutch, put her art supplies in it, and even used it for our sunscreen when going to the beach (that would explain all the sand in the sink when I washed it out). There are a few stains I couldn't get out and you can tell upon close inspection that it was loved but theres nothing wrong with that. Either way it is the perfect size and will be my new favorite clutch.

My Mad Fat Diary = My Mad Immense Obsession

Thursday, June 19, 2014 Unknown 0 Comments

So I started watching My Mad Fat Diary last week Friday and finished it Monday night. There are two seasons, first season on youtube and the second on Dailymotion.com if you just search the name. Needless to say, I could not stop watching... so I thought I'd write a post about it.
How do I even begin to explain this show... Its British and a comedy drama based off of the book My Fat, Mad Teenage Diary by Rae Earl. It follows the life of a teenage girl named Rae Earl who has just come out of hospital for her self harm, anxiety, and depression. I know from that it does not sound quite happy, and at times it isn't, but at others it had me dying of laughter.
There isn't any reason to not love this show. Its brutally honest and insanely funny while touching on very important subjects. Some of these include body image, fitting in, sexuality, sex, friendships, and both mental and physical abuse. These subjects are approached extremely well and all are solved in appropriate ways which can be seen as great examples for the audience.
If you haven't watched this show, I suggest you start soon!

My current everyday makeup routine!

Monday, March 17, 2014 Unknown 0 Comments

For my first beauty blog post I thought I would do something generic. With that being said, I
decided on my current everyday makeup routine. I do tend to change my makeup quite frequently but when I am in a rush or just don't feel like doing something different that day, this is what I like to put on my face.
MOISTURIZE: Once I wake up, I rinse my face off with water and moisturize with my CeraVe PM facial moisturizing lotion. Yes, I know it is PM but when I bought it at Target I made sure to read the ingredients and the only thing differing was that the AM had a bit of SPF in it. Being that my foundation has SPF, I didn't think it was necessary to get the AM moisturizer. I have dry skin and I've found that because this has no acne fighting ingredients in it, it keeps my skin more moisturized and reduces the dry flakes I usually get on my T-zone.
PRIME: After I let my moisturizer set into my skin for 5-10 minutes I prime. I apply my Benefit Porefessional to the places where my pores are the largest, which is on my nose and around it. Since I have to be careful about my dry skin, this is the only place I apply it. Next I will use my Smashbox Photo finish primer on my forehead and lower cheeks. I find that this primer works really well with my dry skin by not aggravating the flakes and also moisturizing a tad more before I apply my foundation.
FOUNDATION/CONCEALER: Once my primer sets for about a minute I use my L'oriel Magic Lumi highlighter pen for my under eyes and lightly dab with my ring finger to blend it in. Next, I wet my Ulta super blender sponge with cold water which helps me wake up a bit more. Here is a video that helped me and I think will explain better how I apply my foundation with the sponge. The foundation I use and have been using since the beginning of the year is the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation (such a mouthful!) in Ivory 805 which is the lightest shade because I am super pale in the winter. This has been my favorite medium to high coverage foundation for a while because I don't have to use much concealer since its built in! The lasting power is great also, by the end of the school day my foundation isn't caky or broken apart at all. But when I do have a zit thats redness comes through the foundation I will use a tiny bit of my Benefit Boi-ing concealer in the shade 01. If my rosacea is showing through the foundation I will use my Real Techniques expert face brush and a tiny bit of Mary Kay concealer in the shade Ivory 1 to conceal it, not buffing but dabbing it over the area.
BROWS: I will comb through my brows with a generic spoolie wand and fill them in with my Benefit Brow Zings in medium using the brow brush from the Real Techniques starter set. I have a specific way that I fill in my brows and will go into detail about how I do them next week in a post!
EYES: Before I start my eye shadow I will prime my lids with the e.l.f. eye shadow primer in sheer. This primer actually covers up my eyelid veins very well. Next, I will use my ring finger to apply Stila's Kitten on my lids but not into the crease. For my crease I use the fluffy eyeshadow brush from my Real Techniques starter set to put and blend the shade Buck from my Urban Decay Naked palette. For eyeliner I use my Maybelline Line Stiletto liquid eyeliner to create a classic winged liner. I curl my eyelashes with my Tweezerman classic lash curler and apply a few coats of the Rocket mascara to my roots to keep my lashes curled and my bottom lashes. If I feel my top lashes need more length I will go in with a coat or two of Benefits They're Real! mascara on the ends.
(Yes I know, I really need to get my eyebrows done.)

POWDER: Since my foundation has had time to set into my skin I use my e.l.f. flat top powder brush to apply my Rimmel stay matte powder in translucent to my T-zone. I (and Tanya Burr) swear by this powder although they have doubled the price on it at my local Target which really sucks.
CONTOUR/HIGHLIGHT/BLUSH: I will take my huge Real Techniques powder brush with Benefits Hoola matte bronzer to contour. I squeeze the brush into a line and do the 3 rule on face: temples, cheek bones, and jaw and then blend like crazy with the full brush. For blush I use my Mary Kay cheek brush to apply Maybelline fit me blush in the shade Deep rose to my cheeks. To highlight I apply Benefits Watt's up on the top of my cheeks then I will take my finger and apply it under my brows and near the tear duct of my eye.

And that is all for my makeup routine!
